The Ayahuasca Dieta

For generations, the Indigenous peoples of the Amazon have practiced the dieta, or sama, as a sacred discipline of cultivating a respectful relationship with the master plants. Rooted in simplicity, intention, and reverence, this tradition is regarded as an important part of preparing the body, mind, and spirit for ceremonial work.

While the traditional dieta is often highly disciplined, we encourage all guests to follow our recommended dietary guidelines before and after their retreat as closely as possible. Many participants and traditional practitioners believe that simplifying the diet beforehand can help the body feel lighter and better prepared for ceremony.

Some also find that it makes the physical aspects of the experience, including purging when it occurs, feel more manageable and less demanding.

Approaching the dieta with sincerity and commitment is one of the most meaningful ways to prepare for your journey. It honors the traditions from which this medicine originates, supports mindful preparation, and creates the conditions for a more grounded and intentional retreat experience.
